SUSTAINABILITY,
A CONCRETE COMMITMENT

Lumson's Sustainability Report 2023 not only captures the Group's mission, but also demonstrates its commitment to a future of sustainable innovation and its focus on the community and the area.
Over time, the company has strengthened its commitment to sustainability and has become a promoter of a change towards a value and production system necessary to safeguard the planet, making its contribution to ‘accompanying people towards the adoption of a more sustainable lifestyle’.
From this idea comes a series of packaging made from recycled and recyclable materials, as well as choices aimed at reducing the impact on the ecosystem. Lumson has been actively engaged in community awareness, promoting environmental awareness through good consumer practices (reduce, recover, reuse).
In addition, as a confirmation of its commitment to sustainability, it has been voluntarily drawing up the Sustainability Report since 2023, which has made it possible to provide a better understanding of existing sustainable practices and goals for the future.

"In November 2022, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which amends Directive 2014/95 (NFRD), was adopted by the European Parliament and Council," explains Nadia Valdameri, Group Quality Assurance Manager and Sustainability & ESG Manager. "EU member states had 18 months to incorporate the CSRD requirements into their legal systems. For companies like Lumson, which fall into the 'Large Unlisted (Private) Companies' category and that at the end of the reporting period, have exceeded at least two of the following size criteria: a) an average of 250 employees; b) a balance sheet total >€20 million; c) net revenues >€40 million, the deadline was set at 2025 for consolidated financial statements, to be published in 2026. However, Lumson's board chose to start this process early and publish two voluntary sustainability reports, in 2022 and 2023, which would allow us to get a snapshot of how the company is doing and begin a gap analysis in order to comply with the new standards."

Among the company’s upcoming goals for 2025-2026 are obtaining ISO 14064-1 (a standard that allows organizations to quantify their GHG emissions to implement Carbon Management policies) and subsequently, ISO 14067 (a standard that provides organizations with a means to calculate the carbon footprint of their products and helps them better understand how to reduce it).

“Lumson has identified climate change as a focal issue, thus the need to reduce our impact,” continues Nadia Valdameri. “In particular, we have embarked on a mission of supply chain engagement that aims to monitor its impact on climate change ‘from cradle to gate,’ meaning upstream of our organization, and to increase the reliability and transparency of our CSR Report.”

On the strength of its achievements in recent years - such as the EcoVadis Gold Medal obtained in 2024 with the 98th percentile and a score of 76/100, which places it in the top 5% of certified companies worldwide - Lumson confirms itself as a company with large numbers that is deeply tied to its origins and territory
Projected towards a future full of new challenges, the company cares about people as well as the environment. Growing in fact is also Lumson's human footprint, which aims for a more sustainable future by paying close attention to employees (from occupational safety to continuous training) and collaborating with all stakeholders to build more sustainable solutions together.

"The 2023 Sustainability Report confirms our commitment to supply chain transparency and our vocation for sustainable innovation. We firmly believe in sustainable innovation as a pillar for future growth and in the crucial role that companies play within their communities. We are in the heart of Italy's Cosmetic Valley and I believe it is essential to serve as a role model in sustainability. This commitment translates into conducting business responsibly and ensuring our actions create a virtuous cycle, positively impacting both people and the environment. We aim to offer innovative products that meet market demand and, at the same time, we are committed to supporting customers in developing respectful, functional, cutting-edge solutions. We want to do our part to promote positive change in the beauty and packaging industry," concludes President Matteo Moretti.
